SKETCHES OF A SUMMER TRIP TO NEW YORK AND THE CANADAS. This copy is inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf: "To Miss Leith, With best wishes and warm regards of the Author 7th May, 1838." Wilkie travelled from his native Scotland to New York and north through Canada. This highly entertaining anecdotal narrative covers the Native community, society, and culture, and local history. The Yale library credits the author as Scottish painter Sir David Wilkie, but this attribution seems doubtful to us.
