In the wake of the 1807 Abolition Act, a series of supplementary bills were passed into law to better effect the suppression of the slave trade (1811), extend the period for prosecutions (1813) and their provisions (1819), and to hasten trials (1824). Introduced to parliament by the Earl of Liverpool, this brought all of that legislation under a single act. Another decade would pass before the 1833 Emancipation Act was brought into effect.
