This is the French translation, after the first edition printed in Philadelphia in 1765, and includes a biography of Bouquet (Smith prepared the book from Bouquet's notes). Bouquet's expedition to relieve Fort Pitt showed British strength in the Ohio country in the wake of the close of the French and Indian War and brought an end to Pontiac's War. The indigenous forces were soundly defeated at the battle of Bushy-Run and treated for peace, releasing captives taken in previous years. Smith describes the campaign, gives an account of the country, tells of warfare with Native Americans and how to fight against them."A translation of Smith's 'Historical Account,' taken from the London, 1766 edition....The maps and plates are re-engraved from the London edition of 1766, the two parts of the map appearing separately....The preface includes a biographical sketch of Bouquet by Dumas" - Sabin.
