Meir Dizengoff (1861-1937) was the first Mayor of Tel Aviv, an early supporter of Herzl, and attendee at several Zionist congresses. J. L. [Leib] Goldberg, the recipient of this cheque, had served as Herzl's escort during his only trip to Palestine, showing him the living conditions. He was later opposed to Herzl at the Sixth Zionist Congress because of Herzl's temporary acceptance of the Uganda Plan. Signed 'M. Dizengoff to J. L. Goldberg.
