With the China Squadron in the East - Panorama of the town of Victoria, Hong Kong, as seen from the Harbour.

£550 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

A classic view of Hong Kong, possibly based on a photograph. The view identifies colonial buildings (schools, hotels, colleges, churches) as well as as some of the most important trading houses and banks. The Graphic (1869-1932) was a popular illustrated weekly newspaper famous for the quality of its reproductions. The British China Squadron was stopping over in the colony on its way to North China, but there is no evidence that the Graphic actually had a correspondent on board.
