Lord Randolph Churchill.

£1,250 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

An association copy of Churchill’s great biography of his father Lord Randolph Churchill, from the library of the Conservative MP Major Ronald Cartland (1907-1940) with his engraved armorial bookplate to the front pastedown of volume one. Ronald Cartland was one of the most outspoken critics of Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasing Nazi Germany, which won him the admiration of Churchill. Poignantly, Cartland would pay a heavy price for Chamberlain’s appeasement policy, becoming the first British Member of Parliament to be killed in action during the Second World War. An excellent set.
