It was a magisterial, largely factual, consideration of trends in the British and international economy and of future economic prospects. But, lacking an obvious theoretical skeleton, it has not received from economists the kind of attention lavished on Principles, although interest in it is now beginning to stir among historians of economics’ (New Palgrave).
