Etrennes des saisons,
£400 · Offered by Shapero Rare Books
An attractive 18th century French almanack. The gilt device to the covers incorporates cartographic astronomic elements, presumably emblematic of the publisher Desnos, who was also a celebrated mapmaker. Along with numerous excerpts from poems relating to the four seasons, this lovely work contains a dedication to Marie-Antoinette, Dauphine of France at the time, and an engraved plate with her portrait. 12mo., engraved portrait frontispiece, engraved title, 2 plates, xylographic decorations, contemporary geometrically-patterned endpapers, contemporary red morocco, gilt, lacking pin to be inserted into fore-edge but flap present, sympathetically repaired in matching leather at spine-head and one corner. Grand-Carteret 446. Cohen-Ricci 48
