[Bidwell, Barnabas]:

$1,500 · Offered by William Reese Company

THE SUSQUEHANNAH TITLE STATED AND EXAMINED, IN A SERIES OF NUMBERS, FIRST PUBLISHED IN THE WESTERN STAR.... Bidwell defends Connecticut's claim to the contested lands in the Wyoming Valley, which were also claimed by Pennsylvania. This pamphlet was "especially worthwhile for its discussion of the decision by the Commissioners of the Conferation [sic] made at Trenton, New Jersey" (Streeter) which argued in favor of Pennsylvania. The issue was the cause of great controversy and the subject of a number of publications. Connecticut finally ceded the land to Pennsylvania in 1800, after the argument renewed by this pamphlet abated.Nebenzahl paid $80 for the Streeter copy in 1967.
