Title: Holdouts! Author: Andrew Alpern; Seymour Durst Publisher: McGraw Hill (1984) Description: Very difficult to find a copy in dustjacket of the original 1984 printing of Andrew Alpern and Seymour Durst - HOLDOUTS! Copies sell for a lot more than the opening bid price here. Great opportunity to own an imperative and important book about New York City. Oversize book chock full of photos and history of a neglected part of New York City's history. The first book of its kind, goes into the fascinating background of owners who refuse to sell or vacate their buildings or homes or businesses. Primarily the book concentrates on New York City. Complete contents listed at end of listing. This is from an interesting perspective with Alpern being an eminent architectural historian who has frequently written about NYC and Seymour Durst being one of the largest developers who sees the potential in sites that could be developed, but for those pesky holdouts! Book is full of unique photos - many from Durst's collection of rare NYC photos. After he passed away he donated his New York City personal library of books, photos, maps, ephemera, postcards, stereoviews and other items to academia where it is being heavily used today. Book was later reprinted as softcover years later in 1996 and again reprinted in 2011. Now once again out of print. Original 1984 copies are not common. From the flap: HOLDOUTS.- ANDREW ALPERN, AIA, SEYMOUR DURST With a Foreword by John’ Lindsay * The little Nedick's
