A PHYSICAL AND TOPOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF THE MISSISSIPPI TERRITORY, LOWER LOUISIANA, AND A PART OF WEST FLORIDA. Generally credited with being the first American scientific description of the lower Mississippi Valley, based on the observations of the author and material supplied by William Dunbar. The author was a native of Natchez, and this work (dedicated to some of the most eminent scientists of the day) was his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Jones notes this work as "very rare," and the Eberstadts call it "a great rarity."
