This book focuses on 100 selected works, yet even here many of his historical masterpieces are left outside. Richter feels like an explorer who keeps asking what painting can mean, and what kind of power it can still have in society. His works often seem to question or even break the history of painting, but never simply deny it. There is something severe, healing, and deeply moving in his images.
