[Macpherson, James]:
$300 · Offered by William Reese Company
A SHORT HISTORY OF THE OPPOSITION DURING THE LAST SESSION OF PARLIAMENT. Fourth edition, published the same year as the first and printed from the same setting of type. "An important pamphlet...for the details it gives of the military operations in America, the conduct of Generals Howe and Burgoyne, etc." - Henry Stevens. "Attributes success of the Americans to the encouragement given them by Whig members - Howes." Howes notes that the work is attributed by some to Edward Gibbon, though Adams shows rather definitively that it is by Macpherson. Only a handful of copies of this edition in ESTC.
