[Lee, Arthur]:
$750 · Offered by William Reese Company
AN APPEAL TO THE JUSTICE AND INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE OF GREAT BRITAIN, IN THE PRESENT DISPUTES WITH AMERICA. By an Old Member of Parliament. Third edition, "corrected," following the first of the previous year. This important tract from the pro-American Englishman Arthur Lee, has, at various times, also been attributed to Wm. Pitt the Elder, Richard Glover, and Benjamin Franklin. The manuscript itself was reportedly sent by Franklin to Almon for publication. Lee advocates the rights of the colonists as common with those of other British subjects against the late impositions, and predicts dire consequences if those rights continue to be ignored. Lee followed up with a sequel the same year.
