THE ART AND ACTIVITIES OF JOHN DARE (JACK) HOWLAND. PAINTER, SOLDIER, INDIAN TRADER AND PIONEER. John Howland was a frontier soldier, artist, miner and scout. He painted scenes from the Plains during what might be styled the end of the romantic period of the western frontier. This is probably the only work dedicated to the life and work of this once well known American artist. Beautifully illustated with reproductions of Howland's works, especially of animals, scenes from the Plains and Indians.
