Journal of a Three Years' Residence in Abyssinia, in furtherance of the objects of the Church Missionary Society,
£400 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
A Swiss Protestant missionary, Gobat spent three years in Ethiopia between 1829-31. His account provides “a good description of life in Gondar and Adwa and interesting accounts of religious matters including church education and social customs. An introductory section contains extracts from the journal of Gobat’s companion and fellow missionary, Christian Kugler, which are, however, omitted from the second edition” (Pankhurst). The second edition though has an added biographical introduction not found in the first edition. Pankhurst, 14.
