THE CLIMATE OF NEW MEXICO AND LAS VEGAS HOT SPRINGS. An early promotional pamphlet for a health resort near Las Vegas, New Mexico. The railroad came to Las Vegas in 1879. The pamphlet closes with this statement: "This concise and statistical record is sufficient to convince the afflicted of all kinds that the climate of the Las Vegas Hot Springs is their only recource [sic] and refuge to preserve and perpetuate health." With a frontispiece view of the Hot Springs resort, a massive Victorian pile called the Montezuma Hotel. It had a brief life as New Mexico's premier resort hotel; finished in the spring of 1882, it burned to the ground in January 1884.
