Handsome copy of the first edition of the collected novelle of Franco Sacchetti (c.1332-1400). Of three editions produced, all dated 1724, this is the true first. Of the original Trecentonovelle , 258 are reproduced here, drawn, as we are told at the end of the final one, from two codices. A practitioner of the novella form, merchant, politician and writer Sacchetti indulged in the ‘vivid narration of day-to-day events and the petty vices of his contemporary Florentines’ (Papio).
