The Works. Third edition of the collected works, curated by Reynold's close friend and biographer Edmond Malone. The portrait frontispiece of Reynolds was engraved by Caroline Watson (1760/61-1814), "one of few contemporary women who maintained an independent practice as an engraver, signing her own work... rather than working unacknowledged in a family business" (ODNB).This collection includes Reynolds's discourses on art and art criticism that he delivered to the fellows and students of the Royal Academy, representing his clearest statement of his aesthetic views. Malone's introductory Life contains a list of Reynolds's art works and their sale prices, ranging from 35 to 1,200 guineas.
