DÉSCRIPTION GÉOGRAPHIQUE DES ISLES ANTILLES POSSEDÉES PAR LES ANGLOIS. This French publication, compiled by the distinguished cartographer, Bellin, describes the British possessions in the Caribbean. The text covers the islands of Jamaica (with maps of the island, Port Royal, and Kingston and Port Antonio), Barbuda, St. Kitts, Nevis, the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Antigua, the Lucayes (Bahamas), and Bermuda, with a map of each. There are also nine views in the text, mainly showing profiles of approaches to the islands, for the use of sailors. The text comprises sailing directions for the islands and the qualities of various bays, points, and towns. Issued during the French and Indian War, the volume contains an unusual French map of Bermuda, and interesting coverage of other British islands. A scarce work.
