BLUNDEN, Edmund.

£3,000 · Offered by Peter Harrington · No longer available

De Bello Germanico. First edition, number 15 of 25 copies printed on special paper and signed by Blunden, this copy in an unusual contemporary binding. The pencil ownership of "A. H. Buck 1930" on the front free endpaper identifies Blunden's fag at Christ's Hospital school, and the later bookplate of Dennis Silk (1931-2019) adds an appealing provenance. Silk was a schoolmaster at Marlborough and Radley, a first-class cricketer, and the close friend of Siegfried Sassoon, to whom he was introduced by Blunden.
