Uncommon school atlas, prepared by John Walker, a doctor of medicine, who became a leading proponent of vaccination, latterly director of the Royal Jennerian Society, the London Vaccine Institution and licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians. Walker also dabbled in maps, particularly game maps, and composed several geographical texts for use in schools. Walker’s Universal Atlas’ first appeared in about 1808, and was frequently reprinted thereafter. In 1823, the partners Charles and John Rivington commissioned a new suite of maps, drawn and engraved by Sidney Hall, which were also used in this edition of 1828.
