In November 1914 the German colony of Tsingtao was occupied by Japan as part of WWI and only returned to Chinese sovereignty in 1922. The area of Kiautschou Bay area was again occupied by Japanese forces from 1937 until 1945. The first two images show a large Shinto Shrine that had been founded in 1915 in order to cement Japanese hegemony over the area.
