THE CHARTER AND BY-LAWS OF THE NEW-YORK DISPENSARY, INSTITUTED, 1790. The rare 1821 charter and by-laws of the New-York Dispensary, a charitable institution founded in 1790 and incorporated in 1795. According to the preface, "While the New-York Hospital, the Alms-House, and the Lying-in-Hospital, receive those who are among the most destitute, and are in want of every domestic accommodation, the Dispensary provides assistance for that description of poor, who, when deprived by disease of the earnings of their daily labour, are also denied the means of procuring the medical assistance necessary for their relief." In addition to the by-laws and a separate list of regulations for vaccines, the Dispensary's subscribers, trustees, and officers are identified. Rare. OCLC records a single copy at the New-York Historical Society, Shaw & Shoemaker adds copies at the New York Academy of Medicine and Northwestern.
