This text brings together several documents describing the negotiations that led to the Treaty of Amiens of 1802, and the preliminary articles of peace signed at London the year before. The Peace of Amiens called a temporary cessation of the Napoleonic Wars, with important consequences for American shipping; the collapse of the peace later led directly to Napoleon's decision to sell Louisiana. In immediate terms, it ceded the islands of Trinidad and Tobago to the British. The French also regained their rights to fish off the coast of Newfoundland. An official quarto printing of these documents was also published in 1803. OCLC locates twelve copies of this octavo printing.
