A Revolutionary-era Massachusetts almanac compiled by Daniel George, a student of astronomy at Haverhill who issued New England almanacs in various Massachusetts towns between 1776 and 1787. This third Daniel George almanac has a woodcut illustration of the solar system on the titlepage, and a small woodcut of an eclipse in the text. In addition to a three-page explanation of the solar system and the calendar for the year, the almanac includes "an account of some extraordinary rarities of nature," a method for rearing turkeys "successfully practiced among the Swedes," and a recipe "to make wine as good as most that is imported and much cheaper." The work concludes with a three-page list of the roads and distances to the principle towns from Boston, "with the names of those who keep houses of entertainment."
