£5,000 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
The first printed atlas of the Iberian peninsula. One of Lopez’s earliest tasks after returning from France was a new survey of Spain, with the work generating both separately-issued large-format maps and this fine pocket-size atlas. This atlas was first published in 1757, containing 21 maps. In 1762, Spain declared war on Portugal, and Lopez expanded the third edition to include the plate of views of Lisbon and the regional maps of Portugal. Very scarce.
