FREEBETTER'S NEW-ENGLAND ALMANACK, FOR THE YEAR OF OUR LORD CHRIST 1773...CALCULATED FOR THE MERIDIAN OF NEW-LONDON, IN CONNECTICUT, LAT. 41 DEG. 25 MIN. ... A scarce late colonial Connecticut almanac attributed to Nathan Daboll. Almanacs attributed on the titlepage to Freebetter were published in New London between 1772 and 1792, but NAIP records only the 1772 almanac as compiled by Edmund Freebetter. In addition to the calendar year (with each month accompanied by a short poem) and predictions for the year's eclipses, this New-England Almanack includes verses on "the journey of life" and "the ingredients of contentment," a list of distances of the principal towns on the continent from New London ("with the most noted houses of entertainment on the roads"), and short prose pieces concerning health, advice to youth, and the mental and personal qualifications of a husband. A manuscript annotation in ink records the birth of one Jonathan Clark on the lower edge of the verso of leaf B2.
