A French royal decree consisting of twenty-seven articles concerning the founding and operation of an archive in France solely devoted to collecting and preserving documents generated in the French colonies. "Copies of all registers of baptisms, marriages and deaths are to be made by the Registrars and Curates in the colonies, as well as of all other official or legal documents with the exception only of inventories and family divisions, but including wills, court judgements, laws and regulations, etc." - Maggs.
