Harry Heathcote of Gangoil. First UK edition, third issue and the first with illustrations, from the sheets of the first issue which were trimmed, had illustrations inserted, and were bound in decorated cloth for the 1874 Christmas market, following the first issue in October. The issue was split between four colours of cloth without priority. The UK edition was preceded by the US edition of January 1874. Trollope's tale of Australian bush life was based upon the experiences of his son Frederic: "I was not loath to describe the troubles to which my son had been subjected, by the mingled accidents of heat and bad neighbours, on his station in the bush" (autobiography).
