Manshu tousa kinen shashincho - Showa ju-nen natsu - Manshu haken gakuto kenkyukai [Memorial album of Manchurian Investigations - Summer 1935 - Dispatching the Student Research team to Manchuria].
£380 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd
From 1933 onwards a selection of University students were given the chance to visit Manchuria (incl. a trip to Shanhai-guan, the border with China) and another independent trip took them to South East Asia, island hopping to Saipan, Palau, the Philippines and Taiwan. What might now be called a summer field trip was arranged under the auspices of the military and the students were shown the sights and scenes of the vassal state. But that was not all: One remarkable large shot shows them cleaning the pavement in front of the recently built ‘Monument to the Heroes’ in Shinkyo. This book was compiled as a memorial album for the students on the trip and was not for sale. Very rare. Only one copy in OCLC (National Diet Library).
