ENSAYO DE LA HISTORIA CIVIL DE BUENOS AIRES, TUCUMAN Y PARAGUAY. The second edition of the earliest history of Argentina written by a native author. First published in 1816-17 in three volumes, this important history of Buenos Aires and the surrounding area is based on original documents. Funes was a major figure in the revolution in Argentina, and the publisher of one of the earliest newspapers issued regularly in the region. This edition includes a nineteen-page biography of Funes, signed in print by "un amigo de los servidores de la Patria." An annotation in a contemporary hand at the end of the article indicates that Mariano Lozano is the author of the biographical introduction.
