The plates, many lithographed by Victor Adam, were taken mainly from drawings by Laborde and Linant de Bellefonds, the French engineer who accompanied the marquis Léon Emmanuel Simon Joseph de Laborde on this journey to Petra, which furnished the world with the first detailed images of the famous monuments. The quality of the cartography is also very high, and there are splendid views and panoramas of the scenes en route.
