Francis Spilsbury was surgeon on board HMS Tigre during the campaigns against Napoleon’s French troops in the Levant, 1799-1800. The splendid views are mostly connected with the coastal towns of the Levantine coast, but include some inland scenes. Abbey, Travel 381; Blackmer, 1585.
