The Real, Genuine, and Authentic Narrative of the Proceedings of Capt. James Lowrey, before and after he was appointed Commander of the Ship Molly.

£1,500 · Offered by Maggs Bros Ltd

The Brooke-Hitching copy . Herein is the narrative of James Lowrey, the ill-fated Commander of the Molly, who was convicted of murdering a member of his mutinous crew during a voyage from Jamaica to London. The text was apparently drawn from court transcripts as well as his own testimony. Using Copac, ESTC and OCLC we could locate only 4 copies in the UK and 3 in North America (at New York Public Library, Case Western Reserve, and the University of Oklahoma). This edition is significantly rarer than a contemporaneous work on Lowrey titled The only genuine and authentic narrative of the proceedings of the late Capt. James Lowrey…, printed for Thomas Parker, [1752].
