With a flourished presentation inscription at the head of the title “Thomas Clegg, Esq., with the regards of Geo. Cruikshank”. Lower wrapper rather dusty, a few stains on the upper wrapper, hinge partly separated, generally a bit used, but attractive nonetheless. The text is an invective promoting the state’s provision of free education for all: at the time of publication Cruikshank was in the second of two childless marriages, but had already had two children by Adelaide Attree, the former household maid. They went on to have eleven in total, ten of whom survived infancy.
