Although rather an unprepossessing production this is an important work describing as it does Werne’s second journey, printed in German as Felzug nach Taka . According to the translator the book is to be commended on three counts: firstly it describes a region previously unexplored; secondly the author is himself an “officer in such an army as we can hardly realise in these days of high civilisation”; and thirdly Werne had time whilst in camp to make careful ethnographic notes on the people he encountered.
