HOBBS'S ARCHITECTURE: COMPRISING DESIGNS AND GROUND PLANS FOR VILLAS, COTTAGES AND OTHER EDIFICES, BOTH SUBURBAN AND RURAL, ADAPTED TO THE UNITED ... Second edition, enlarged and revised. Featuring 122 designs in a wide array of styles, with engraved views and floor plans. Many of the designs included here were prepared for Godey's Lady's Book between 1863 and 1873. The importance of these designs and Godey's architectural material in general is discussed in George Hersey's article, "Godey's Choice," in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. Hersey states that Hobbs' designs must have been responsible for the transformation of many an American suburb.
