SEVERAL TREATIES OF PEACE AND COMMERCE CONCLUDED BETWEEN THE LATE KING OF BLESSED MEMORY DECEASED, AND OTHER PRINCES AND STATES.... A copy with a most significant provenance, this copy bears a contemporary manuscript note on the titlepage reading: "Belonging to the Secretary of State's Office. Home Dept." There is also a manuscript table of contents bound in between the titlepage and the page explaining the necessity for the work. The first edition of this collected printing of important British treaties, occasioned by the death of Charles II and containing a number of treaties of importance to America. The 1667 treaties with Spain, France, and the Dutch (Davenport 55, 58, and 57) made Spain for the first time acknowledge England's right to New World colonies, gave New York to the British, and swapped French Caribbean islands for Nova Scotia. Also included are commercial treaties in 1669 and 1670, and the treaties settling the Second Dutch War and again giving New York to the British in 1674 (see Davenport 62, 65, 66, 69, and 70). This 1685 edition is not in Sabin, who only notes the 1686 reprint. A nice collection, with the most significant of associations.
