The Jansenist Port Royal was demolished between 1710 and 1712 . This work was written as a sequel to the same author’s The tour to Alet , which was actually by Claude Lancelot, and was published as a ‘distinct work, instead of a concudling volume to the new edition, in order to render it accessible to those who have already purchased the first edition [1838], and who might not wish to encumber themselves with the second [1816].’ (Preface p. [iii]) Mary Anne Schimmelpenninck (née Galton 1778-1856) was born a Quaker but became very interest in Jansenism, not only writing about it, but also building up a collection of materials which were presented to Sion College by the widow of the Rev. Robert Aitken.
