Sutro, Adolph:
$250 · Offered by William Reese Company
CLOSING ARGUMENT OF...ON THE BILL BEFORE CONGRESS TO AID THE SUTRO TUNNEL...APRIL 22, 1872. The deluxe edition of Sutro's closing argument, printed on large glossy paper, from a different setting of type from the standard issue, and including an important map. Sutro's tunnel was to be cut through four miles of the Comstock Lode for ventilation, drainage, and an easier extraction of ore. He attempted to find backing for ten years, and succeeded with European capital in 1878. Sutro's lengthy remarks in defense of his plan are printed, as is the proposed bill. The map shows the location of the Sutro Tunnel and the Comstock Lode in Nevada, and also a longitudinal section of the Comstock Lode. This deluxe issue, not mentioned by Paher, is scarce.
