Portrait of an Iowa warrior who, in his youth and in revenge for the death of his best friend, attacked a Sioux village by himself and killed three men. Shauhaunapotinia, or the Man Who Killed Three Sioux, was a member of the Iowa delegation that visited Washington in 1836-37. Mckenney and Hall's 'Indian Tribes of North America' has long been renowned for its faithful portraits of Native Americans. The portraits are largely based on paintings by the artist Charles Bird
