Prince Maximilian and his party left Fort Union on 6 July aboard the 60-foot keelboat Flora and eventually arrived at Fort McKenzie on 9 August 1833. On leaving Fort Union the hunters were again able to find a ready supply of game from which to provide meat for the keelboat passengers. Buffalo appeared near the river on July 10 and several were taken.
