Japan : late Edo. Carved on one side, this woodblock was created to print a hikifuda 引札, a handbill, flyer, or inserted advertisement for stores or products. Our example advertises the pharmacological product Kanryōen 肝涼圓, an extremely popular pediatric medicine manufactured in Kyoto by the Matsumura Itteidō Co. 松村一定堂.
