Fisher, a fiscal conservative, discusses two main themes: the Tariff Act of 1842, which he strongly opposes, and the admission of Texas to the Union, which he favors. The annexation of Texas would be a major issue in the election. Fisher would lose the election to Whig candidate Daniel M. Barringer.
