HOWDEN & ODBERT'S ATLAS OF WARREN COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. An impressive atlas for Warren County, Pennsylvania, engraved, lithographed, and printed by Otto Krebs of Pittsburgh. Maps of the several towns and townships in the county are rendered in great detail. The handcolored lithographic plates depict the homes and farms of noteworthy citizens, as well as public buildings and businesses. Of all of the county atlases produced in late 19th-century America (there are many hundreds), only a few had colored plates. It was the custom of the time for salesmen representing the publisher to visit local residents and solicit subscriptions to the project, in return for the depiction of their homes. An informative and finely illustrated work, notable for its colored plates.
