Chester, dated Jan. 8, 1904, in which Cordley asks Chester about his family, and informs him of the present title's publication. Cordley, a minister, first went to Kansas in 1857 and lived there for most of the next forty-five years. Chapters cover some of the noteworthy events in Kansas history, the history of Lawrence, and the Civil War.
