The Complete Writings. Author's Edition. Number 968 of a limited edition of 1,000, signed on the limitation page by Elbert Hubbard, founder of the Roycroft artisan community, or by one of his Roycrofters whom he had trained to imitate his signature. Roycroft was a handicraft community founded in East Aurora, N.Y. about 1895 by Elbert Hubbard, influenced by the English arts and crafts movement. Hubbard started the Roycroft Press in order to publish a series of biographical sketches he had written called "Little Journeys." These form the first volume of this collected edition. Hubbard quickly became both popular and famous and collected a community of craftspeople around him in Aurora. Roycroft craftspeople were skilled metal smiths, leather smiths, and bookbinders. Today, items that were produced by the Roycrofters are highly sought after by collectors.
