Slip bills are printed in small numbers during the legislative process, for the use of legislators and staff, with the lines of the text widely spaced and numbered for easy annotation and reference during debate.Under the Treaty of Buffalo Creek in 1838, the Oneida and other tribes ceded many thousands of miles of territory in Wisconsin and in New York, agreeing to move to the new Indian Territory. Under this bill more than half a century later, the impacted tribes from New York would formally relinquish their claims on these lands in return for a payment of $1,971,295.92. The bill was referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.
