The featured speaker was the New York senator, Silas Wright, called by Thomas Hart Benton the "Cato of the Senate" (DAB). In 1844, Wright resigned from the Senate and was running an ultimately successful campaign for governor of New York. The notice also gives instructions on train service to the meeting location. This copy of the meeting announcement was sent to the noted jurist, Charles James Folger, who would go on to become Treasury Secretary under Chester A. Arthur. In 1844, Folger had just been appointed a judge at the Court of Common Pleas, Ontario County, New York, marking the beginning of his career in public service.
